Day 1 : Villanueva de la Boca del Monte, formerly known as San José, is the capital of Costa Rica. At an altitude of 1,150 m, the city enjoys one of the 3 best climates in the world: 23°C on average! Some districts are worth a visit, such as Barrio Amon, with its neoclassical architecture, and Barrio Escalante, with its many small restaurants.
Since the 1970s, the capital has experienced an economic boom, with suburban expansion and a strong presence of universities. San José, with its 1,500,000 inhabitants, is a cosmopolitan city.
A little disconcerting at first, it’s easy to fall under the spell of this constantly bustling city. A capital full of life and color.

The Costa Rican Caribbean is characterized by its environmental and cultural diversity. It is coastal, cross-border with Panama and mountainous. Over 80% of its surface area is protected. This region is home to the Afro-Caribbean culture. A place that offers both superb beaches and numerous activities: diving, horseback riding, excursions, animal sanctuaries…
Cahuita National Park runs through jungle and along the sea, protected by a coral reef. The Gandoca Manzanillo refuge, between land and sea, protects a 5 km2 reef with an abundance of coral, a natural mangrove oyster bed, lagoons and mangroves. Here you can observe monkeys, iguanas, agoutis, raccoons, sloths, anteaters, coatis and more.

• Guided visit of NP Cahuita – Duration : 3:00 : Stroll the trails of Cahuita Park to discover the monkeys, sloths, iguanas and many other animals that inhabit the area. • Entrance to Cahuita National Park – PAYABLE ON THE SPOT : Located on the Caribbean coast, the park is both marine and terrestrial, and is home to the country’s largest coral reef. It is the marine part of the park that attracts visitors for its richness and ease of snorkeling and diving.
Days 5 and 6 : The Turrialba volcano is one of the most active in the country. The region offers magnificent views of the valleys bordered by coffee and sugarcane plantations and the Turrialba volcano. The small town of Turrialba has retained all its authenticity. It is home to the prestigious CATIÉ, whose beautiful tropical gardens are particularly worth a visit.
Turrialba is characterized by beautiful landscapes, lush green pastures and fields, white-water rivers and numerous outdoor activities. Adventure tourism reigns supreme: rafting, canyoning, abseiling, mountain biking and horseback riding are the region’s main attractions. Coffee growing is ubiquitous, making this one of the best places to learn all about the Golden Bean. Finally, the mountains and reserves are magical places for hiking enthusiasts.

ON THE AGENDA:
• Full day horseback riding – Duration : 7:00 – included meal : Explore the 350 ha. of the estate on horseback. Spectacular views of the Turrialba volcano, the valley below, undergrowth and remote waterfalls will be your daily distractions. You’ll ride through meadows, coffee and sugarcane plantations. Typical lunch included.
Days 7 and 8 : This region, situated between the Arenal and Miravalles volcanoes, is ideally located for nature lovers and birdwatchers of all kinds. Activities such as horseback riding, tubing and hiking are very popular, as are bird and mammal watching. A visit to the Tenorio National Park and its famous Rio Celeste, the celestial blue river, remains the area’s highlight. Climatic conditions influenced by the Caribbean and the Pacific make this a first-rate place for observing numerous species such as birds, tapir, puma, sloths, anteaters, coatis, frogs, butterflies…

ON THE AGENDA:
• Cabalgata El Pilon – Duration : 2:00 : Your guide (esp/ang) will take you on an entertaining tour of the national park’s surroundings, including small farms, villages, rivers for refreshment and forests. The tour ends with a glass of cane juice extracted in front of you (2:00 on horseback + 1:00 on foot). Swimming during the ride.
Days 9 and 10 : Expect to enter the sanctuary of ecology.
Our advice here is to take a guide to visit the many sites and reserves in this region, where flora and fauna blend harmoniously. Discovering the cultivation of cocoa, coffee and sugar cane is also a must.
You’ll feel as if you’re on top of the world, as the mountainous landscapes overlooking the not-so-distant sea offer spectacular views.
Tens of thousands of insects, 2,500 species of plants, 420 of which are orchids, 400 species of birds and over 100 species of mammals make this an exceptional region.
Hanging bridges, zip-lining, night tours and walks in the various nature reserves are a must.

ON THE AGENDA:
• All Day Cowboy – Duration : 6:00 : A day trip away from the tourist areas, ideal for horse lovers! You’ll pass through a private farm where the scenery is astonishing; don’t forget your camera! A picnic is planned by the river, where monkeys and tropical birds also come to cool off. You can take a dip in the pools of a small stream and relax, before heading off to explore other landscapes in the region. The area is very hilly and the views are breathtaking.
Days 11, 12 and 13 : The small seaside resorts of Nosara, Samara and Carillo have only recently come into their own, and local activity is focused on fishing, lounging and surfing. Isla Chora in the bay of Samara is a wildlife reserve that is home to birds, rays and dolphins all year round.Access to both the north and south of this region, especially in the green season, is not easy, but ensures rest and contemplation of these superb beaches. Every year, the Ostional National Wildlife Refuge plays host to the “arribadas”, or mass arrivals of turtles. Sometimes more than a thousand turtles come here to lay their eggs in one night!

ON THE AGENDA:
• Sunset Horseback – Duration : 2:30 : You’ll set off on an excursion to the heights through the jungle to enjoy breathtaking views of the Pacific. You’ll then descend to a turtle sanctuary by the ocean, before heading for Buenavista beach. Cross the river, gallop along the beach and, if you’re lucky, you may even spot some baby turtles.
• KAYAKING AND SNORKELING ISLA CHORA – Duration : 3:00 : 2 itineraries to choose from: 15 min. or 40 min. kayak to Isla Chora, depending on departure point. Once on the island, relax and swim. Then snorkel to discover the local seabed before returning to the departure point.
