AUTOTOUR
Lovers of independence and intuitive discovery prefer self-drive tours in Costa Rica. With no time constraints and total independence during your stay, it’s total freedom to travel.
This form of transport is the most widely used, although Costa Rican roads are often criticized by some travelers. However, they are improving year on year, and the entire road network is gradually being modernized. Some parts of the country are only accessible by 4×4, and in some places a higher-category 4×4 is required. Of course, we adapt the vehicle to the tour.
It’s on the many roads and tracks that your stay will take on its full dimension, and you don’t need to be a Paris-Dakar driver to drive on these tracks. We will indicate any difficulties and the estimated time from one point to another in your travel diary, according to your itinerary.
Drive slowly, as the tracks pass through villages where children play and farm animals – chickens, pigs and cattle – roam freely.
Added to this is the Wifi service we provide so you can use a GPS on your smartphone like Waze.
LOCATION
The many car rental companies are virtually equal in terms of price, but not in terms of service or reliability. That’s why we’ve selected a few that offer all the guarantees of a well-maintained, safe vehicle, and have a sufficiently large fleet in case of replacement following an accident or any other problem.
DRIVER AND/OR GUIDE
A comfortable, hassle-free transportation option for those who can afford it. You can take advantage of the services of an English-speaking driver or driver-guide. An excellent option for all those who want to enjoy the country without wasting time and without missing out on essential, atypical things. People who are not fluent in Spanish will be particularly attracted by this option. It’s an excellent way to share your different cultures, to forge close relationships without losing your independence.
Discovering a country with a guide is certainly the best way, over a short period of time, to discover as much as possible through the experience and knowledge of a native.
Subject to availability, we prefer English-speaking Costa Rican guides. The friendliness of the Ticos is well known, as is their respect and enthusiasm. We prefer to work with Costa Ricans in order to offer a service that is adapted to most requests.
What’s more, what could be more natural than to be guided through your stages by a local?
Most of our customers who have used guides have kept in touch with them long after the trip is over, through exchanges of e-mails and photos. Some have even hosted their former guide for an evening during his or her stay in France.
Admittedly, this is the most expensive option, but it’s also the most comprehensive.

DOMESTIC FLIGHTS
Costa Rica may be a small country, but some remote areas can be saved precious time by domestic flights. For example: to get back from Drake Bay by car or mini-bus transfer, you’ll need to spend 7 to 8 hours on the road. With a domestic flight, you’ll need just 45 minutes… There are two national airlines: Sansa and Nature Air.
Private flights are also available, which can be very interesting for families of 4, 5 or even 8 people, for a flight over the volcanoes or for aerial photography.
ATTENTION – BAGGAGE WEIGHT LIMIT: 30 lbs /PERS + 1 CABIN BAG OF 11 lbs. Excess baggage in the hold will be charged at around $1/lbs (price varies by airline).
